Description:
Welcome to Racccoons a series of weekly, online nature connection programs for kids.
Whether you've got a forest or parking lot for a backyard, GOS online programs support young people in connecting with themselves, other kids, and the natural world, through responsive mentorship, on a weekly basis.
Supporting kids in staying connected and engaged with the out-of-doors is a tried and true avenue to healthy development on all the metrics, and a slam-dunk for overall health and well-being.
GOS Raccoons is a unique, fun, and welcoming online group platform designed to inspire and equip kids to discover the wonder & magic of the natural world with fresh eyes, and as part of a community where their stories are heard and celebrated, and a new adventures await every week.
Our format is simple and effective, delivering just enough time online to get kids excited about the next task in the out-of-doors. Our Virtual Opening Circle is based on our signature GOS opening circles where we share song, story, and gratitude, and make plans for the day. Some sessions will feature a special mission or hilarious challenge for kids within the timeframe of the online session, and other sessions will provide a homework adventure with a chance to share that story the following week.
Raccoons helps to maintain a sense of adventure right from home, and authentic connection with other kids. As always, thrilling GOS games, stories, art of questioning, nature based-challenges, and skilled mentorship bring magic to the mundane
Weekly games, challenges, adventures are assigned according to participant interest and the season, and may include: mapping your home & surroundings, keeping journals for Bird & Plant ID, looking for, sketching and measuring tracks, calling grandparents and elders, learning stories off by heart, tracking the moon cycle and finding constellations. They are designed to increase awareness and knowledge of place, as well as focus, self-esteem, and competence. During our sessions, we bring nature awareness alive with hilarious polls & quizzes, instructor stories and slideshows, and mini-games and warm-ups.
Price: $25.00 Taxes included
Required age: 7 - 13 years old on the day of the activity
Notes: The main session content is structured to last 1 hour. Instructors are available for 1.5 hours, leaving a full half hour at the end for kids to connect, ask questions, share stories, etc. Our online sessions use Zoom web conferencing, and require downloading the Zoom application ahead of the first session. Go to [zoom.us]. If you are new to Zoom, consider familiarizing yourself and your child with the zoom platform beforehand. To help your child, your family, and other participants get the best possible experience, consider the following: * headphones or earbuds can help sound quality * a distraction-free room or environment for your child will be good for us all. * a washroom break just before the session * teach your child to use mute when they are not speaking, * Provide a note pad or journal, and maybe a snack * Your home will be visible to other children & parents. * You can turn your child’s video of themselves off, if you suspect it is distracting Your Zoom Invitation and Call-in Details are provided upon Registration. To maintain quality of programs, online sessions are limited to 15 spots. If your desired program is full, make use of our waiting list, and we will find a way to accommodate. Thanks for understanding.
