On The Wing Spring Birding Series: Session 2

After a long, cold winter, nothing sings out the reawakening of nature like the return of the birds! Soon our familiar winged neighbours like the Robin and the Red-winged Blackbird will be back making their nests, but did you know our region also plays temporary host to many other kinds of birds on epic journeys from South and Central America, to the great Northern Forests of Turtle Island?

On The Wing is a series of birding and bird connection workshops, with themes running throughout, but casual enough for the beginner birder to drop in on. We’ll look at breaking down identification into accessible chunks, ask questions about bird language, do some mindful bird-sits, get stoked for migration, and ponder how we can decolonize birding. Join us for one session, or dive into the whole series.

Session 2 focuses on bird language.  We'll likely encounter many of our common resident birds that have returned, in addition to temperate migrants including raptors, swallows and sparrows.

On the Wing is birding à la Guelph Outdoor School – simplified and made fun; rooted in curiosity, awareness, and the bigger picture; designed for absolute beginner to fully-fledged bird-nerd.  Every feather found is a tracking mystery waiting to be unraveled.  Connect with nature in your backyard. Connect with the birds, yourself and others.

Dress for the weather, with sturdy footwear for a bit of a hike. Bring a snack, a lunch and a hot beverage, and binoculars if you have them!
